Volunteer Opportunities:

We are always looking for volunteers (individuals or groups) to help out with our Food Access programming. If you’re interested in volunteering in any capacity, please fill out this form.

Current volunteer opportunities include:

Gardener, Lancaster Community Garden
Time commitment: low to medium
Volunteers are needed in the garden to help with watering, weeding, harvesting, and assisting other gardeners with their beds as needed. Work sessions can be scheduled in advance or on as "as available" basis. Extra produce may be available for volunteers during the harvest season.

Gardener, Plant-a-Row Program
Time commitment: low (existing garden) or medium (if starting a new garden)
Do you already grow your own garden at home? Or are you thinking of starting one? You can help provide healthy food to families who need it by dedicating one row of your home garden to planting produce to be donated to food pantries and other recipient organizations. Plant whatever produce you want, send us a few updates throughout the season, and either donate the produce as you go, or we can coordinate an end-of-season harvest day.

Gleaners, Farmers Market Team
Time commitment: low to medium, transportation needed
Volunteers are needed to help with our gleaning program, which works to reduce food waste by "rescuing" perfectly good excess produce from farms and delivering it to food pantries and other recipient organizations. The farmers market team is looking for volunteers to attend the weekly farmers markets in Lancaster, Littleton, and Gorham (choose one or more) to collect any unsold produce they wish to donate. This takes about one hour - volunteers do not need to stay for the whole market, just near the end. The Gorham market takes place on Thursday evening, Lancaster is Saturday morning, Littleton is Sunday morning/early afternoon.

Gleaners, Harvest and Transport Team
Time commitment: low to high, transportation needed
Volunteers are needed to help with our gleaning program, which works to reduce food waste by "rescuing" perfectly good excess produce from farms and delivering it to food pantries and other recipient organizations. The harvest and transport team works to harvest food from farms and deliver it either to Taproot’s Marketplace in Lancaster, or directly to a recipient organization. We can connect you with opportunities close to where you live - not just in Lancaster.

For more information, contact our Food Access Coordinator at foodaccess@taprootnh.org or (603) 788-4183 ext. 4.
