Gleaning

What is Gleaning?

Gleaning is the gathering of excess food from farms and backyard gardens that otherwise might go to waste.

Since 2015, we have partnered with farmers and backyard gardeners to collect excess food that would otherwise go to waste and distributes it to recipient organizations throughout Coos county, northern Grafton county, and eastern Essex county in VT whose clients are food insecure. Recipient Organizations include food pantries, soup kitchens, schools/summer recreation programs, low-income housing, senior housing/centers, and a homeless shelter.

If you are a farmer or backyard gardener with excess crops to donate, or if you know of farms, backyard gardens, or orchards (active or inactive) that might have produce that can be gleaned, please email foodaccess@taprootnh.org or call (603) 788-4183 ext. 4.
