Local Food Fund

Our Local Food Fund works in two ways:

1. We purchase food from local farms in bulk and then donate it to the food pantry - 50# bags of potatoes or carrots, 10# of lettuce, etc. Additionally, we purchase apples/squash/pumpkins from local farmers for the annual Pie Project in collaboration with the WMRHS culinary team and Project Homebound. The culinary team bakes pies, which are then put in Project Homebound Thanksgiving boxes for families.

2. We provide Taproot Dollars to SNAP recipients (or anyone in need) through their own Taproot Dollars account. We load a predetermined amount onto their Taproot Dollars account each month and then they have the power and sovereignty to shop for their own food in our Marketplace. We provide an additional 15% discount on all purchases to help stretch their dollars.

Our Local Food Fund is supported, in part, through our Round Up at the Register in our Marketplace and through generous donations.
